Journaling Visually

Wrapped around and in between the everyday painting of my larger pieces is the work I do in my sketch and painting books. This watercolour was used to work out some spacial issues I was considering, combined with a fresh colour palette that appealed to me. These loose paintings feel similar to writing words in a journal. They bring me back to a kind of fluid, primitive mark-making. I know when they are ‘working’ when I feel bliss looking at a drawing or painting. We smile at each other.

The good and the less than wonderful are together in the journals, allowing me to see the progression (hopefully) and shift in my work.
